Purpose of the role

Tabono, on behalf of our client, is seeking a dynamic Assistant Manager responsible for:

  • Day-to-day management of travel retail operations at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA)
  • Organizing and supervising the work of Sales Associates during assigned shifts

Reporting line

  • Reports to: Branch Manager

Location

  • KIA, International Departure Lounge

Key outputs

  • Maintain shops to the defined operational standards
  • Oversee and motivate Sales Associates
  • Lead the team to achieve company sales targets and objectives
  • Maintain optimal stock levels at all times

Key responsibilities

1. Point of sale

Shop management and presentation

  • Accountable for shop assessment and tenure
  • Lead implementation of predefined product arrangements
  • Ensure all products have price labels
  • Maintain shop cleanliness at all times

Commercial activities

  • Implement communicated promotions and campaigns
  • Execute activations with suppliers (marketing, tasting goods, materials, access)

Cash management

  • Ensure availability of change in cash tills at all times
  • Oversee cashier session closing procedures

Customer care

  • Lead and motivate the team to deliver excellent service
  • Support Sales Associates with escalated customer queries

Team coordination and operations

  • Conduct team briefings during shifts
  • Allocate staff to shop floor, tills, and tasks
  • Share communications and updates with the team
  • Report malfunctioning work tools to the Operations Manager
  • Manage and/or report suspicious behavior from customers, employees, or airport staff
  • Report commercial performance and shift-related events to management

2. Human resources

  • Review shift schedules and highlight staffing gaps with recommendations
  • Adjust shifts for short-notice absenteeism
  • Monitor passenger traffic and allocate staff accordingly
  • Plan staff breaks during shifts
  • Participate in training of new and existing sales staff

Attendance and discipline

  • Full responsibility for attendance, punctuality, and shift compliance
  • Monitor staff presence and movements in real time
  • Report latecomers and absentees
  • Take immediate action on absenteeism, lateness, or early departures

Performance management

  • Ensure all assigned tasks are completed before shift end
  • Conduct daily team briefings and debriefings
  • Report individual behavior and performance issues

3. Stock management

  • Control physical and system transfers from warehouse and between shops
  • Ensure optimal stock levels across shops
  • Oversee inventory processes
